Introduction

The purpose of Step 1 is to introduce you to the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) examination, including content, when and how to take it, and costs, as well as background information about The Institute of Internal Auditors (The IIA). Much of this page is taken from the Certification Candidate Handbook, which is published by The IIA and can be downloaded from its website once it is available.

The CIA designation is international and has been prepared and graded by The IIA since 1974. The exam is computerized, and it is administered at Pearson VUE testing centers.
