International Education Credential Information

Many state boards require that your credentials be evaluated by a service to determine if your education meets their requirements. If your objective is to obtain the CPA designation and you are not interested in practicing in a particular state, you should consider the following when determining where to sit for the CPA Exam:

  1. Verify that there is no residency requirement.
  2. Look for a state that has not enacted the 150-hour requirement.
  3. Look for a state that offers a CPA certificate separate from its license to practice.
  4. Look for a state where CPE requirements apply only to the license to practice.

For State Board website links, find your chosen state on our CPA Requirements and Registration Instructions by State page. Be sure to find out exactly what type of evaluation report your state requires. Then, contact the credential evaluation organization of your choice through the link below to verify that their services are accepted in the state in which you intend to apply.
