How International Candidates Pass the CPA Exam
 

Step 1

Make the commitment to take the CPA exam.

  1. Also make the commitment to prepare adequately to pass the exam. If you do not commit yourself to achieve success, it will be impossible for you to outperform other CPA candidates.
  2. Our system for success will enable you to pass the exam.

Step 2

Become an expert on the CPA exam.

  1. To outperform other CPA candidates, you must know more about the CPA exam than they do.
  2. This expertise includes knowledge of the subject matter covered on the exam, how the exam is prepared, the types of questions on the exam, the rules for exam administration, and the procedures that will be followed when you take the exam.
  3. Rely on Study Units 1-8 in A System for Success and our tutorial on the Basics of the CPA Exam.

Step 3

Purchase the Gleim CPA Review System.

  1. The Gleim CPA Review System consists of books, Test Prep Software Download, Audio Review, Gleim Online, Simulation Wizard, and access to a Personal Counselor for all four sections of the CPA exam. This system allows busy CPA candidates to optimize their limited time through intensive review of all available materials. Our materials emulate the exam environment so you know what to expect at Prometric on the day of your exam.

Step 4

Communicate with your Personal Counselor and prepare a study plan.

  1. Study discipline is critical as you prepare for the CPA exam.
  2. Our 80 easy-to-complete study units prepare you for the entire CPA exam. Each study unit takes about 5 hours to complete.
       1) If you complete one study unit each day, it will take about 12 weeks to prepare for all four sections of the CPA exam.
  3. CPA Review: A System for Success contains a detailed listing of suggested steps to take in planning your exam execution. It describes techniques for time budgeting, order of answering questions, and the question-answering techniques you should use for each type of question. It also provides a complete explanation of all the examination procedures and rules.

Step 5

Determine to which state board you are going to apply.

  1. Please visit our recommended state list for more information. If you are interested in sitting in a jurisdiction not included on this page, see our CPA Requirements and Instructions by State for State Board website links.
  2. Most state boards require that you have your educational credentials evaluated to make sure they are equivalent. Please visit our International Education Credential Information page and pursue your credential evaluation in a timely manner so it does not hold up your application process.
  3. The evaluation services generally suggest contacting them and starting the process 4-6 months before you wish to submit your application to the selected board. Remember, it can take up to 8 weeks to get your NTS when you first apply to the State board.
  4. Begin your travel plans by gathering and filling out any forms necessary for a U.S. Visa.

Step 6

Schedule your exam with Prometric and make your travel arrangements.

  1. Make all necessary flight, transportation, and hotel arrangements early so that you can get the best fares and focus on your studies instead of worrying about travel arrangements at the last moment.

Step 7

Work systematically through each study unit.

  1. Each study unit for the Gleim CPA Review System contains practice questions (multiple-choice, simulations, and written communication tasks) along with knowledge transfer outlines and all the tools you will need to minimize time and frustration spent studying while maximizing results.
  2. You will answer previous CPA exam multiple-choice questions in an interface that emulates Prometric. Each question also contains answer explanations for the correct and incorrect answer choices.
  3. Use the simulation or written communication tasks to familiarize yourself with the testing environment and to perfect your test-taking skills so you are confident in your abilities on exam day.
  4. Use the Test Prep Software to focus on your weak areas by creating customized quizzes.
  5. Continue to Communicate with your Personal Counselor to ensure you use your materials in the most efficient manner.

Step 8

Attend the exam and execute your plan.

  1. After using the Gleim CPA Review System, you will be prepared to pass the next CPA exam.
