The Gleim Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC) is designed to increase your
knowledge and abilities as an instructor and a pilot in addition to renewing your
flight instructor certificate. It is a structured, interactive, self-study review
and certification program that requires 16 hours of participation.
This course does not just fill the time requirement for renewal without regard to content. Rather, the Gleim FIRC makes individuals analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information to help them become better instructors and pilots. Study Unit 16 of this course, "Flight School Security Awareness Training" is a TSA approved lesson for both initial and recurrent TSA Flight School Security Awareness (FSSA) training. This Study Unit is FREE for CFIs and other flight school employees who are required to have annual TSA training. A TSA approved certificate of completion is provided at the end of this study unit.

I have found all of the Gleim materials very well done and very easy to use. Most of my aviation experience was in military and commercial, and I wanted the best general aviation source I could find, and I believe the Gleim series provides that.

After years of classroom FIRCs, I decided to try an online course. This Gleim course exceeded my expectations. Because of my schedule and the nature of my internet connection, I used the pdf outlines for all training. This was an excellent method for me. I will say that I spent over an hour on each unit, but I felt it was time well spent. I learned something in every unit. The response from the Gleim staff to my feedback comments was both prompt and professional. I appreciate the time they took to respond to my comments.

This is the first on-line course that I've used for renewal. I always chose to sit in a class room for two days and get it over with. This has opened my eyes to the on-line method. I prefer this. I was able to do it at my own pace and actually read the material and not just go through the motions.

The Gleim course was excellent. It was a good review. Having instructed for a few decades, it comes naturally to me to create training scenarios, however, it is much more difficult to systematically, and methodically transfer that ADM to students in a fashion they can understand. This course reminds me that what I find easy with ADM students can often find quite challenging.

I thought this was the best program I have used for CFI renwal. Even though I have used Gleim FIRC previously, I think you have perfected it to the point it tops any other FIRC provider.

I just completed my CFI renewal with Gleim. This was the first time I used the Gleim Course. It was the most educational renewal program in my 30 years as a CFI.

This is my 4th time using Gleim, and yet I learn a ton of new information each time I renew. I anticipate that I will use Gleim for all of my own renewals as well as recommend it to my CFI students. Thank you.

This is my sixth renewal. In the past, I have taken a competitor's FIRC but after taking the same course so many times I needed a change of pace. I am glad that I chose to take the Gleim FIRC. The course outlines were great, user friendly and an easy read. I truly believe that I learned more from this FIRC than the last one and even though it took about the same amount of time to complete, this time I actually enjoyed the experience.

Overall I very much like your three-step approach starting with multiple-choice, through study to test. I retain more using this one-hour-at-a-time approach vs.16-hour intensive weekend.

Gleim online FIRC is simply the best way to refresh your CFI knowledge in your spare time. The lessons are top-notch, and I recommend this resource to all of my CFI friends.

Been using Gleim products since 1983, and this product continues to be top of the line. I have used potentially every product produced for flight training, and I still find no other product that is better than Gleim. Just keep up the fantastic work.

Wonderful weather presentation. Gleim breaks a complex area down so efficiently and makes interpretation of the weather to aid in the go/no go decision much more simple. The SBTs are very helpful suggestions for helping the CFI to better educate the student. Engaging the student in the judgement/decision process teaches them to think, rather than just be told by the CFI. Teaching and learning is happening, rather than just telling.

Gleim FIRC continues to impress me with the information contained and the method. I always learn more than I expect to. I also appreciate the convenience, I am able to complete individual tests around my schedule. Thanks for your hard work in developing this method of renewal.

I always learn a lot from this course and use the excellent study guides frequently. Also, the course prompts me to "dive deeper" into areas I know to be my own weaknesses. I believe I'm a better instructor as result of taking these courses.

Ground Instructor EndorsementThe Gleim Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC) is an Internet-based ground recurrent training program delivered via the Internet. Certificated flight instructors may use this FAA-approved course as the sole basis for renewal of their CFI certificates, regardless of ratings held. Unlike flight instructors, certificated ground instructors are not required to renew their certificates every two years; ground instructor certificates are issued without an expiration date. However, ground instructors are required to meet certain recent experience requirements before exercising the privileges of their certificates. 14 CFR Sec. 61.217 states that the holder of a ground instructor certificate may not perform the duties of a ground instructor unless, within the preceding 12-month period,
The purpose of ground instruction is to introduce the student to principles and concepts that will be applied in flight and to provide the background knowledge needed to make flight training both efficient and meaningful. Additionally, ground instruction prepares the student for his/her pilot knowledge test and his/her post-training flying career by explaining the meaning of regulations, the use of weather services, flight planning procedures, etc. Ground instruction may be given either by a ground instructor, who may provide only ground instruction, or by a flight instructor, who may provide both ground and flight instruction. Therefore, the privileges and responsibilities of a ground instructor are included as a subset of the privileges and responsibilities of a flight instructor. Because all of a ground instructor's privileges and responsibilities are contained within the broader privileges and responsibilities of a flight instructor, it is the Gleim position that any person who successfully completes the Gleim Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC) has demonstrated satisfactory proficiency in the aeronautical knowledge areas that a ground instructor must be familiar with [listed in 14 CFR Sec. 61.213 (a) (3) and (a) (4)]. Certificated ground instructors who have successfully completed the Gleim FIRC program may request an endorsement from Gleim Publications to meet the requirements of 14 CFR Sec. 61.217 (b). Accordingly, on request, Gleim will issue to any certificated ground
instructor who completes the Gleim FIRC an endorsement certifying that
(s)he is proficient in the subject areas that a ground instructor
must be familiar with. The endorsement reads as follows: Flight School Security AwarenessFlight School Security Awareness Training is a TSA approved lesson for both initial and recurrent TSA FSSA training. It is included as a study unit in the Gleim Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC), and is available free of charge for CFIs and other flight school employees required to have TSA training. At the completion of the course, you will have a more in-depth knowledge of actions you can take to increase security at your flight school or airport, indicators of suspicious activity, and the TSA's best practices and recommendations for flight school security. You will also be familiar with current threats to general aviation security, guidelines, and security measures at your own flight school or airport. A certificate is provided upon successful completion of the study unit. Please click on Continue to begin the course. |
