Pilot Refresher Course
Price: $29.95

Getting back into aviation? Want to stay current? Preparing for a flight review? If you answered YES to any of those questions, the Gleim Pilot Refresher Course (PRC) will help you.

Who will benefit from the Gleim PRC?

  • Pilots who are getting back into aviation and want to know what's new
  • Pilots looking to keep their flying knowledge sharp
  • Anyone who wants to increase their understanding of basic piloting knowledge
  • Pilots or CFIs preparing for an upcoming flight review or aircraft checkout

PRC uses your make-and-model's weight, balance, and performance charts. Thus, this course is an airplane-specific recurrent ground training course designed to increase pilots' safety, knowledge, and abilities.

The Gleim Pilot Refresher Course has been more than just helpful to pass my biannual flight review. I am a private pilot, single engine, land flying my own homebuilt aircraft. As I get older I find that a comprehensive review not only makes the flight review easier, but makes me feel better about myself as a pilot. I believe every pilot, especially those who only fly limited hours a year, should find a course such as the Gleim Pilot Refresher Course and participate in it for every review.

I found it [to be a] very enjoyable study process to prepare for bi-annual or just to stay current.

This is my first Gleim module. I am very impressed with the "automatic" support: phone call from a Gleim contact and good prompt email support. I have been away from aviation for awhile and this Pilot Refresher Course is an excellent way to re-enter.

Your ability to construct a course of instruction is unmatched in the industry. Your formatting is exceptional and the methodologies in presenting the material is excellent. Please continue to keep the material current as I rely on your expertise in this particular area.

I find the material presented in the Pilot Refresher Course to be directly relevant and helpful to approaching a forthcoming Biennial Flight Review with confidence, and staying abreast of subject matter necessary to maintaining the skill level necessary to be a safe and competent pilot.

Lesson: 1: Emergencies

True/False: Excellent
This is as advertised, A great way to get the brain warmed up for the upcoming exercise.

Outline: Excellent
This brings to light things that have been place way back in my mind and that should be at the front for safety. Multiple Choice: Excellent
Again this was arranged in a manner that made me think twice about a couple of questions. It's to easy to shoot from the hip, you must think before answering.

Comment Submitted:
I'm very thankful that I found this prior to my flight review. I've gotten a little rusty and complacent over the years.

I consider Gleim's format an inspiring adventure. The true/false questions provoke desire and suspense for what is next.

I also like the way the knowledge transfer system gets right to the point. The subject matter is a no-nonsense approach to learning for the serious pilot.

"I used Gleim publications when I earned my Private ticket in 1979 and my Instrument in 1981. They were very helpful then, and they are very helpful now. The "thought provoking" concept is excellent. I have all the knowledge transfer outlines copied and filed for future reference and refreshment. I flew as a business pilot from 1981 to 1991. Following 10 years away from flying, I decided to attempt a comeback. The positive effect of the fine study materials you provide have made flying again a dream come true. When I looked for printed material for study, yours was the first name I remembered. I am a bit surprised at how much came back rather quickly. Being retired, home study on my PC is a perfect setup. If I decide to get instrument current again, I know where to look for help. The online course I just finished has been a great help. Well constructed, challenging, and stimulating as well, an excellent teaching tool for scraping off the rust. I love flying, and you are helping to make it happen for me again."
- David K. Fowler

Course Elements

  • A 5-10 minute audiovisual presentation
  • 10 thought-provoking true/false study questions
  • Approximately 15 pages of knowledge transfer study outlines
  • A 10-question multiple-choice quiz
  • A Study Unit evaluation
To complete a study unit, you must:
  1. Answer 10 thought-provoking true/false study questions. You will receive answer explanations that indicate why you answered the questions correctly or incorrectly. The true/false study questions are intended to help you to begin thinking about and studying the subject matter of the Study Unit. They also allow you to evaluate how much you already know about the concepts before you read the Knowledge Transfer Outline. Your performance on this section does not affect whether you pass the Study Unit or complete the course.
  2. Print and study the Knowledge Transfer Outline for the Study Unit. The outlines are divided into sections called "subunits" to make studying them easier.

You can use the print function on your browser to print the outline by clicking Print under the File Menu. Use your printout of the Knowledge Transfer Outlines for future reference. When you have finished studying the outlines, you will be ready to take the multiple-choice final quiz. Note: If you need to refer to the outline during the quiz, click the "Outline" link near the top of the page to open the outline in a new window.
  3. Pass the multiple-choice final quiz with a score of 70% or better. You will be presented with 10 multiple-choice questions based on the material you covered in the outline section of the Study Unit. You may move back and forth between questions and change your answers, but once you choose to grade the quiz, you will not be allowed to return to the questions. When you have answered each of the 10 multiple-choice questions to your satisfaction, click the Grade button at the bottom of the screen below the last question. Once you obtain a passing score, a review session will provide you with answer explanations for any multiple-choice questions that you answered incorrectly.

  2. Study the knowledge transfer outline for the study unit. When you have finished studying the outlines, you will be ready to take the multiple-choice final test.
