2018 CPA Exam Score Release Dates

Score release dates for 2018 CPA exam

When it comes to the CPA Exam score release dates, 2017 was an interesting year. The release of the CPA Exam scores for each quarter did not progress as normal due to some significant exam changes. Though 2017 is over, the score release anomaly may not be, as the AICPA’s announcement of the 2018 CPA Exam score release dates does not include normal (or definitive) score release dates.

The publication of these score release dates confirms that 2018 will continue to include the 10-day testing window extension the AICPA implemented in Q2 of 2016. This extension was temporarily suspended when CPA Exam transitioned to the new version in Q2 of 2017, but the extension was available again for Q3 and Q4 for 2017.

2017 CPA Exam Score Release Dates Irregularity

The score release of 2017 was unusual for CPA Exam history because there had only been 7 score release dates by the midway point of the year. The score release for Q1 occurred normally with a total of 5 release dates, but the launch of the newest version of the exam delayed the release of the Q2 scores and consequentially decreased the number of dates down to 2.

The 2017 version of the CPA Exam debuted on April 1, 2017, and involved many major changes to the exam. The extent of the changes necessitated additional time to conduct a standard setting process that would involve statistically validating candidate performance and establishing the CPA passing score. This standard setting process delayed the Q2 CPA Exam score release until the end of August, which meant some candidates had to wait up to four months to receive their exam scores. For some candidates, the delayed CPA Exam score release left credit for their passed exam sections in jeopardy, but NASBA and the state boards of accountancy worked together to address the unique situations of each candidate in this position.

For Q3 and Q4, CPA Exam score release dates were a bit more on schedule, as candidates who sat during these testing windows received their scores within the last month of the quarter. However, there were still only a few release dates for the final testing windows of 2017.

2018 CPA Exam Score Release Dates Outlook

As the tables of 2018 CPA Exam score release dates above suggest, the AICPA may or may not resume its regular score release pattern for the entirety of 2018. Candidates will have to wait a little longer to see if the AICPA will add more score release dates for Q2, Q3, and Q4, but since the 2018 CPA Exam changes came on April 1, 2018, the score release dates remain limited. No matter how many more 2018 CPA Exam score release dates are added, the candidates of 2018 will hopefully experience less exam score anxiety than the candidates of 2017 did.
