  3. Hold at least a current FAA second-class medical certificate.
  4. Pass a pilot knowledge test with a score of 70% or better. The flight engineer test consists of 80 multiple-choice questions selected from the questions in the FAA's Flight Engineer knowledge test bank.

  6. Successfully complete a practical (oral and flight) test given as a final exam by an FAA inspector or designated examiner. The practical test will be conducted as specified in the FAA's Flight Engineer Practical Test Standards.
HOW TO RECEIVE AN ENDORSEMENT FOR THE FLIGHT ENGINEER KNOWLEDGE TEST

There is no specific endorsement for the Flight Engineer Knowledge Test. However, when you arrive at the testing center, you must present proof that you meet the experience requirements of 14 CFR section 63.37. In order to verify that you meet these requirements, you must provide a written statement and signature from one of the following authorized persons:

  1. A qualified flight engineer with the appropriate class rating
  2. A U.S. Armed Forces flight engineer instructor for the same class of airplane
  3. A flight engineer instructor associated with 14 CFR part 121 training program
  4. An FAA Aviation Safety Inspector (operations/airworthiness)

The endorser must include a statement that they have personally verified that you meet the experience requirements of 14 CFR section 63.37. They must also identify their position, such as flight engineer certificate number, name of the training facility, and FAA inspector's office identification.

The verification of experience requirements is NOT required if you hold one of the following:

  1. A commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating, or an Airline Transport Pilot certificate issued by the FAA
  2. A foreign unrestricted commercial pilot or Airline Transport Pilot license issued by an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) member state
  3. A passed, failed, or expired original test report for that specific test
