How Coronavirus is affecting the CMA exam

April 2, 2020

Prometric is continuing to monitor the evolving situation in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic and actively assessing the impact of changing local, state, and national government regulations, as well as health policy guidance, on the status of their operations. They acknowledge that the US federal government recently announced an extension of the federal social distancing guidelines through April 30th in the United States. This policy has been adopted by some, but not all, local and state jurisdictions.

At this time, Prometric anticipates continuing with their plan to reopen their U.S. and Canadian test centers on April 16th. They will provide more information as early as possible if this changes. Temporary closure dates for testing locations in other regions of the world are determined based on regional circumstances, and current information is available on Prometric’s site closure page.

As the CMA window will not open until May, this has no affect on the exam right now. We will keep you updated if any changes occur.

March 27, 2020

ICMA updates CMA policy temporarily

The majority of candidates will not be affected by ICMA’s changes. If you are about to enter or complete the CMA Certification Program, you may be affected by these minor changes.

Change to submission process for education transcripts

For the time being, CMA candidates must submit all required educational transcripts to ICMA electronically. ICMA requests all documents be emailed in PDF format and that candidates include their IMA membership number.

Note: If you have already submitted your educational documents by mail, resubmit a scanned copy of your documents to the relevant email address above.

Delivery of new CMA certificates delayed

ICMA has temporarily suspended delivery of all new CMA certificates but plans to resume shipment as soon as possible.

March 19, 2020

Due to growing concern about the Coronavirus (COVID-19), Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) has announced they are extending the May/June window to July 31st. The window is now scheduled to run from May 1, 2020, to July 31, 2020.

This extension gives candidates who may be impacted by the virus an extra month to be able to sit. The last day to register for the exam in this window is now July 12, 2020.

Additionally, if you have already scheduled an exam for this window, IMA is waiving fees to reschedule to a later test date.

March 17, 2020

Prometric temporarily closed Test Centers in the United States and Canada on March 18, 2020, for 30 days. Because the CMA exam window does not open until May, the May-June window is still proceeding as planned at this time.

If your appointment for this window is affected, you should expect more information via email from Prometric. Please note that if you choose to contact Prometric for assistance, hold times may be extended due to the volume of individuals.

March 13, 2020

Test Centers will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. For a complete list of testing locations that are closed in other parts of the world due to the virus or other factors, please check out the Prometric page. Some test centers in the following areas are closed:

  • Belgium
  • China
  • Cyprus
  • France
  • Italy
  • Malta
  • Middle East
    • Bahrain
    • Kuwait
    • Qatar
    • Saudi Arabia
    • United Arab Emirates
  • Poland
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • United Kingdom

In addition, the April 11 CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) Chinese language exam has been postponed to Sunday, May 10, 2020. Should conditions change and if safety remains a concern or government regulations limit site availability, the May exam may be rescheduled to a later date.

February 13, 2020

Chinese test centers have closed and IMA has canceled the CMA exam at least through February. If you previously canceled the CMA English exam in the January / February 2020 exam window, you can contact Prometric at 010-82345674 or chinareg@prometric.com to receive a refund of your $50 change fee.

Please know that due to circumstances, wait times at Prometric can be longer than normal.
