How Coronavirus is affecting the CMA exam

July 21, 2020 - Prometric reinstating cancellation/rescheduling fees

In March, Prometric waived all cancellation and rescheduling fees for the CMA exam due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Beginning August 1, 2020, these fees will be reinstated.

Prometric is still working to assist candidates in areas impacted by the pandemic.

Candidates who have appointments canceled or rescheduled as a result of continued test site closures or regional restrictions will not be penalized. If your exam appointment is impacted due to site closures or regional restrictions, you will receive an email notification informing you that your appointment has either been

  1. Rescheduled, and you will be provided with your new test date and location, or
  2. Canceled, and you will be provided with instructions on how to reschedule.

Candidates who are unable to test due to COVID-19 illness or impact after August 1 should contact Prometric using their “Contact Us” form and choose “Request a Refund.” Prometric will respond to you individually. Because of the high volume of inquiries they are receiving, they estimate it will take between 5 and 7 days for you to receive a response.

May 15, 2020 - Test center openings, Face masks

Prometric is reopening 116 test centers globally, with plans to open an additional 200+ sites throughout May. In the U.S. and Canada, only essential exams are being tested through the end of May (the CMA exam has been designated essential), but you should be flexible when selecting your exam appointment due to limited capacity with social distancing measures. For a list of test centers that are reopening, please visit Prometric.

Candidates looking to test need to bring their own face mask. These masks can be medical or homemade and must be worn during the entire visit. If you do not bring your own mask, you will not be allowed to test, you will be marked as a “no show,” and you will not be eligible for a free reschedule. Read the updated Social Distancing Testing Procedures put out by Prometric.

Prometric will continue to contact you directly via email about the status of their exams. Please note that Prometric is experiencing a high volume of inquiries related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Candidate Care phone line has been temporarily disabled, but Prometric encourages candidates to reach out via their “Contact Us” page to request a chat or send an email.

April 23, 2020 - Test center closures, Test center openings

Prometric is extending test center closures in the U.S. and Canada through May 31. This extension is in accordance with local and federal governance as well as advice from the CDC and WHO.

A limited set of essential services programs will be able to test on May 1. The CMA program has been designated as an essential services program. Testing in some states will be available May 1 following strict safety guidelines.

As with previous test center closures, if your exam appointment is impacted, either by social distancing policies or the testing center is not yet opening, you will receive an email from Prometric with further instructions, and your rescheduling fees will be waived.

April 22, 2020 - Test center openings, Test center closures, Chinese language exam

Test centers in mainland China were opened April 20 following guidance from the Chinese government. Additional procedures have been implemented to ensure candidate safety. IMA postponed the May 10 Chinese language exam to July 26 and the November 7 exam to December 6. The date for the July 25 Chinese language CMA exam remains unchanged.

Many other locations are still closed. Test centers in the U.S. and Canada will remain closed through April 30. The next testing window for the English language CMA exam is scheduled to open on May 1. The May/June window has been extended through July 31. For a complete list of test center closures, please see the Prometric site closure page.

April 17, 2020 - Test window changes, Test center closures

Update from ICMA:

The ICMA has decided to extend the September/October window by one month. It will begin one month earlier, August 1, 2020, and end at its regularly scheduled end-date, October 31, 2020. Registration dates for August will be available soon.

In an earlier update, the May/June window was extended by one month. It will end July 31, 2020, and registration for this window will be open until July 12, 2020. If you have already scheduled your exam in this window, you may reschedule within the window at no cost.

Update from Prometric:

Earlier this year, Prometric made the decision to close their U.S. and Canada-based test centers through April 16. Prometric will extend the closure of test centers in the U.S. and Canada through April 30 and expects to resume testing in time for the May window.

Prometric will be emailing and waiving exam rescheduling fees for those impacted by this change. You can still search for available appointments on Prometric‘s website.

For other testing locations, Prometric is still updating their Test Center Closures page.

April 2, 2020 - Test center closures, Chinese language exam

Prometric is still considering options to keep both staff and exam candidates safe. They will continue to monitor local governments and CDC guidelines to maintain a safe environment. Test center closures are still being considered on a regional and case-by-case basis.

At this time, Prometric anticipates continuing with their plans to reopen their U.S. and Canadian test centers on April 16th. They will provide more information as early as possible if this changes.

As the CMA window will not open until May, this has no affect on the exam right now. For candidates who would be sitting in the Chinese language of the exam in April, IMA has postponed the exams until May. For more information about this delay, read the update posted by IMA.

March 27, 2020 - Education transcripts , CMA certificates delivery

ICMA updates CMA policy temporarily

The majority of candidates will not be affected by ICMA’s changes. If you are about to enter or complete the CMA Certification Program, you may be affected by these minor changes.

Change to submission process for education transcripts

For the time being, CMA candidates must submit all required educational transcripts to ICMA electronically. ICMA requests all documents be emailed in PDF format and that candidates include their IMA membership number.

Note: If you have already submitted your educational documents by mail, resubmit a scanned copy of your documents to the relevant email address above.

Delivery of new CMA certificates delayed

ICMA has temporarily suspended delivery of all new CMA certificates but plans to resume shipment as soon as possible.

March 19, 2020 - Test window changes, Rescheduling exam

Due to growing concern about the Coronavirus (COVID-19), Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) has announced they are extending the May/June window to July 31st. The window is now scheduled to run from May 1, 2020, to July 31, 2020.

This extension gives candidates who may be impacted by the virus an extra month to be able to sit. The last day to register for the exam in this window is now July 12, 2020.

Additionally, if you have already scheduled an exam for this window, IMA is waiving fees to reschedule to a later test date.

March 17, 2020 - Test center closures

Prometric has temporarily closed Test Centers in the United States and Canada from March 18, 2020 for 30 days. As the CMA Exam window is not open until May, the May-June window is still proceeding as planned at this time.

If your appointment for this window is affected, you should expect more information via email from Prometric. Please note that if you choose to contact Prometric for assistance, hold times may be extended due to the volume of individuals.

For a complete list of testing locations that are closed due to the virus or other factors, please check out the Prometric page.

March 13, 2020 - Test center closures, Chinese language exam

Test centers in the following areas are closed:

  • Belgium
  • China
  • Cyprus
  • Italy

  • United States

In addition, the April 11 CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) Chinese language exam has been postponed to Sunday, May 10, 2020. Should conditions change and if safety remains a concern or government regulations limit site availability, the May exam may be rescheduled to a later date.

February 13, 2020 - Test center closures

Chinese test centers have closed and IMA has canceled the CMA exam at least through February. If you previously canceled the CMA English exam in the January / February 2020 exam window, you can contact Prometric at 010-82345674 or to receive a refund of your $50 change fee.

Please know that due to circumstances, wait times at Prometric can be longer than normal.
