It’s hard to believe it’s been 45 years since I sat down at my kitchen table and wrote the first self-study CPA review book.
A lot has changed since then.
For instance, my wife no longer compiles my notes on a typewriter. Now, we have an editorial department that focuses on creating the best up-to-date study materials in the industry. I’m not rushing to the post office every day to mail out books. Instead, our state-of-the-art online course is available anytime, anywhere you need it. And you won’t see my kids packing customer orders while watching Saturday morning cartoons—they are now running the business. (Though you’ll still see them in the trenches with their sleeves rolled up.)
For all that has changed in the last 45 years, plenty has remained the same.
When I published the Gleim CPA Review back in 1974, my goal was to bridge a gap—to bring the CPA Exam within reach for anyone. There were no self-study options back then, and I couldn’t afford a live review course. I wanted to create a course that everyone could benefit from no matter their background. All you needed was motivation and a willingness to study.
That mission still stands today. I still believe that becoming a CPA should be attainable by all, not just by those with means or a job with a Big 4 firm. For 45 years, Gleim has aimed to help all candidates pass and succeed in their accounting careers. In that time, Gleim candidates have passed millions of exams and gone on to enjoy distinguished accounting careers defined by success and leadership.
I am so proud of your achievements. I am grateful that we’ve had a chance to help shape this industry hand-in-hand. And I look forward to helping generations of accountants for decades to come.
Join us in celebrating all that we have accomplished together, and thank you for continuing to trust Gleim to achieve your professional goals!
Onward and upwards,
