Candidates from countries where the local IIA chapter or institute has a Certification Agreement (CA) with The IIA must apply/register with their local chapter or institute, using the country-specific instructions on the linked pages listed below. Candidates from these countries may not apply/register directly with The IIA.

Candidates not living in one of the above countries must apply/register using The IIA's English website, following the instructions listed below. Alternatively, candidates from these countries may apply with a translated paper application via regular postal service, if a translated paper application is available in the candidate's desired language.

REGISTER TO SIT FOR THE CIA EXAM

It takes about 10 minutes to enter your personal information into the IIA Certification Candidate Management System (CCMS).

  1. Create a Profile in The IIA's Certification Candidate Management System (CCMS)
    1. This process takes less than 10 minutes.
    2. Go to The IIA's website (www.theiia.org) and click on the "Certified Internal Auditor" link (found under the "Certification" tab) at the top of the page (SEE BELOW).

    3. You will be taken to a page describing the CIA designation and the computer-based format of the CIA exam. At the bottom of the page, click on the link labeled "Click here" under the heading "Applying and Registering through CCMS" (SEE BELOW).

    4. The CCMS log-in page will then open in a new window. Review the information and click the "First Time Users" link in order to create your profile within CCMS (SEE BELOW).

    5. You will be presented with a "Candidate ID Agreement". Once you read and understand the accepted terms, click on the link below labeled, "I agree to these terms and want to create a profile" (SEE BELOW).

    6. The next page will be entitled "NetForum Account Information." If you have a NetForum account, enter your NetForum username and password in the provided fields. If you do not have a NetForum account, click on the "Create a profile without knowing NetForum username and password" link (SEE BELOW).

    7. Fill out at least all the fields marked with an asterisk (*) on this next page to create your profile with The IIA (SEE BELOW).

    8. Once you have filled in your personal information, click "Submit" at the bottom of the form (SEE BELOW). If there are any problems with your information, you will be redirected back to the profile creation screen with a list of errors encountered during submission listed in red at the top (i.e., "An Email Address is required.").

    9. You will then be taken to a confirmation page alerting you an email has been sent to your provided primary email address containing activation instructions (SEE BELOW). Your account activation capabilities expire 1 month from receipt of the email.

  2. Apply to the CIA Certification Program
    1. Eight screens with activities.
    2. Approximately 10-15 minutes.
    3. After you receive your confirmation email, click the provided link (SEE BELOW) in order to activate your account. You will need the authorization code sent with your email as well.

    4. Enter your authorization code in the provided field (SEE BELOW) and click the "Submit" button.

    5. You will then be able to select a username and password. Choose ones that are easy for you to remember and hard for others to guess (SEE BELOW). This username/password combination will be used to identify you whenever you return to The IIA's Certification Candidate Management System (CCMS) in the future.

    6. Immediately after new account creation, you will be asked to verify the demographic information you provided previously (SEE BELOW). Ensure everything is how you had entered it and nothing has changed. If you need to change any of the information, you can use the "Update Personal Info" link in the left navigation area.

    7. Once you have verified you demographic information is correct, read and agree to the License Terms provided by The IIA. Click the "Verify Record and Agree to License Terms Below" button (SEE BELOW) only if you have read, understood, and agreed to the terms provided.

    8. You should then be redirected to your Candidate Record information page with a confirmation message concerning demographic verification at the top (SEE BELOW).

    9. Click on the "Complete a Form" link and choose the correct application (CIA Application or CIA Application-Student/Professor) from the New Forms tab (the default) (SEE BELOW).

    10. You will then be taken to the application form, and you may begin filling it out. Once you have begun filling out an application, you can save it via the "Save for Later" button (SEE BELOW) and return to it later by choosing the In-Process Forms tab. Once you have completed and submitted an application via the "Submit Form" button (SEE BELOW), you can review it by choosing the Completed Forms tab.

    11. Complete your application process by filling out your payment information and submitting your order (SEE BELOW). Paying by credit card will ensure the quickest processing time.

    12. You will then be brought to a Confirmation of Form Completion page which contains an order summary, payment information and order details (SEE BELOW). You will receive an email (within 5 business days) confirming your order.

  3. Register for an Exam Part
    1. 5 screens with activities.
    2. Approximately 5 minutes.
    3. After you receive the email from The IIA notifying you of the approval of your CIA Application, log in to the CCMS with your Username/Password by going to https://i7lp.integral7.com/iia. Once logged in, you should see notification that you are enrolled in Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) Flagship Certification (SEE BELOW).

    4. Navigate to the form section of your account by clicking on the "Complete a Form" link as in step 2.i (from above). From the New Forms tab (the default), choose the registration form for the exam part you wish to take (e.g., CIA-Part 1 Registration) (SEE BELOW). Once you have begun filling out a registration, you can save it and return to it later by choosing the In-Process Forms tab. Once you have completed and submitted a registration, you can review it by choosing the Completed Forms tab.

    5. Agree to the Pricing Provisions and Conditions statement by checking the box labeled "I understand and agree to the above statement" and clicking on the "Submit Form" button (SEE BELOW).

    6. On the next screen, fill out the payment information and submit your order (SEE BELOW). Paying by credit card will ensure the quickest processing time.

    7. You will be taken to a Confirmation of Form Completion page that contains an order summary, payment information, and order details (SEE BELOW). You will receive an email (within 5 business days) confirming your registration and authorizing you to schedule the part for which you registered. You must print out this email and bring it to the testing center with you when you take the exam. The email advises that you need to wait at least 48 hours for your information to be processed, and then you can log in to the Pearson VUE website (www.pearsonvue.com/iia) to schedule your appointment to sit for the exam. You have 180 days from the day you registered for the exam to sit for it.
