David L. Stanley

David L. Stanley is an Associate Professor of Aviation Technology at Purdue University where he has been a member of the faculty since 1993. He is a past curriculum chair of the Aeronautical Technology program, has led the department’s development effort for two years, and chairs the Aeronautical Engineering Technology accreditation initiative. He was named the Ivan D. Livi Aviation Maintenance Educator of the Year in 2003, and has been selected four times for the Outstanding Faculty member award in Aviation Technology.

Professor Stanley holds the Airframe and Powerplant certificate and teaches primarily powerplant courses in the four year Aeronautical Technology curriculum at Purdue. His research activities focus primarily on the development and application of new bio-fuels, work which is funded by agricultural interests and involves collaboration with the agriculture and biological engineering faculty at the university. He holds B.A., B.S., and M.S. degrees, all from Purdue University.

Professor Stanley is also a Certified Flight Instructor, and is one of three Purdue faculty members who provide upset recovery instruction to flight students. He owns an experimental aircraft and a sailplane, and is a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Soaring Society of America, and the American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics.
