Week 4: Reviewing for the CIA Exam

Improving Study Processes

With my exam exactly a week away, like anyone prepping for a test, I am extremely nervous and anxious. To be honest, I think I did a pretty good job mastering the concept of studying while also working full-time. However, like anything in life, I think I would improve some of my study habits now that I am looking back on them. Most of my improvements would be focused on time management and prioritizing.

Moving Through Study Units

When prepping for Part I of the exam, I kept forgetting to keep in mind my goal – to pass the exam. As a type-A student, I spent extra time on study units where I felt I hadn’t totally masteredthe material. I should have moved on to the next study unit instead of spending so much time reviewing areas that I didn’t master. For individuals currently working in the audit field, my suggestion is to try to apply as much content as you can to your professional experience. It can be easier to grasp a concept to which you personally relate.

Learning from Others

I also would recommend reaching out to friends and colleagues to learn about their experience taking the CIA exam. Listening to my colleagues really provided additional guidance in how to study for the exam. However, when speaking with others about the exam, you have to remember that we are all different and that we all learn differently.

Closing in on Exam Day

As your exam date gets closer, you should try to just relax and not get overly frustrated. I plan this Saturday to spend eight solid hours at the library studying for my exam. After Saturday, every night next week, I plan to take a practice exam, and then all day Friday take practice exams until 8PM. I have the exam first thing Monday morning. In the end, I am confident that with the support of my peers and the study tips and materials provided by Gleim, I will successfully pass the exam.
