7 steps to take once you're an EA

There are many different paths you can take with your EA career. The following seven steps are a good idea no matter what you decide to do.

Get listed

The first step after becoming an EA is to make sure your listing is up to date on the IRS’s Directory of Federal Tax Return Preparers with Credentials and Select Qualifications Opens in new window. Being listed will allow you to get more clients now that you can offer more services and have unlimited representation rights thanks to your EA credential. You can update your professional profile on your LinkedIn page and, if applicable, your website, to reflect your new status and promote your increased representation rights.

two

Spruce up your resume

If you’re looking for a new job, now is the time to elevate your resume. Be sure to list your EA designation prominently, as this will show potential employers that you have the skills and experience they’re looking for. You can also highlight any other relevant experience or education that you have.

three

Join tax organizations

There are many organizations that EAs can join.
