Check out our new look

For nearly 50 years, it’s been our mission to bring you the best exam prep courses—courses that prepare you to pass with confidence. We’ve delivered results to the millions of accountants who have passed their exams with Gleim, and throughout 2023, were enhancing our courses to ensure we help millions more.

These enhancements stem from customer feedback, guidance from professional educators, and consultations with e-learning platform experts, which bolsters our confidence in delivering successful results to you.

Let’s take a look at the next batch of improvements coming to Gleim courses on June 5.

Making study simple

We’re excited to share what we’ve been working on behind the scenes—a more personalized and engaging study experience for all our users! We’ve focused on the study unit list, which is where you used to select the topic you wanted to study.

New look, same commitment

While you’ll notice a fresh, modern look, the changes we’ve made go beyond aesthetics. Our main objective is to create a more interactive and intuitive platform, one that allows you to visualize your study path, see how far you’ve come, and understand how much of the journey remains.

The new home page

When you first log in to the course after the update, you’ll be moved to Step 1, no matter where you previously were. Don’t fret though, this change will not affect any progress you’ve made. Instead, it allows you to familiarize yourself with the updated platform and gives you an opportunity to take a guided tour of the changes.

Your progress, visualized

Your progress, visualized

We’ve designed the new platform to have an easy-to-follow structure. The steps you see depend on the specific course you’ve purchased (for example, some products do not have a second mock exam), but they’re all set up similarly to accomplish the goal of the redesign: making study simple.

  1. Onboarding
  2. First Pass
  3. Mock Exam 1
  4. Final Review
  5. Mock Exam 2

Let’s dig a bit deeper into these steps!

Step 1: Onboarding

The first step is aimed at helping you get a solid grasp of our Review System. Onboarding suggests a few simple tasks and provides easy access to our best resources, and it’s, especially useful if you’re a new course user. Here, you’ll find a ‘Course Overview Video’, your ‘Study Planner’, and an ‘Exam Guide’, all meant to give you a head start on your studies. You can navigate back to this step at any time, and completing the tasks in it isn’t mandatory. Feel free to skip it if you’re already familiar with the system.

Step 2: First Pass

First Pass majorly revamps the old study unit list and is where you’ll spend most of your time studying. Each card represents a study unit. These cards are designed to provide essential information about your progress in each study unit, helping you to efficiently manage your study time.

We’ll look at those in more detail later on.

Step 3: Mock Exam 1

Mock Exam 1 is the gatekeeper to the final stages of your studies. Completing and submitting this exam will unlock Steps 4 and 5, but don’t rush it! The next step, Final Review, contains the same content as First Pass. The difference is that in Final Review, the adaptive and recommendation systems are re-tuned to help you shore up your weak areas to maximize your score in the weeks before your scheduled exam date.

If you try to tackle Final Review before completing your first pass through the material, we have to assume (for the sake of your score!) that you don’t know any of the topics that you haven’t answered questions on yet. That means Final Review will prioritize those topics (since they read as zeroes) and you’ll likely see recommendations about those topics instead of the ones you might actually be struggling with, at least until you get some questions right.

We definitely don’t recommend it (because we put a lot of work into it), but you can ignore the recommendation system if you want. We just recommend you stay in First Pass for as long as possible if you choose to.

Step 4: Final Review

Entering Final Review is the beginning of your home stretch, and you should start it a couple weeks before your exam date. While First Pass makes sure you have been exposed to all of the exam’s content and have a good grasp of the topics, Final Review exists to ensure you’re exam-ready. It contains the same content as First Pass, but will aggressively focus on maximizing your score and responsively adapt to your most recent quiz results.

Step 5: Mock Exam 2

A second mock exam isn’t included in all courses. If yours has one, it’s an excellent opportunity to test your knowledge a few days before your actual exam. The topics are all weighted exactly like the real thing, and if you take it in one go (which we recommend), it’s as close to an exam-day experience as you can get.

What’s next?

Our commitment to your success is our driving force. We can’t wait for you to experience this new, improved version of our course and look forward to hearing your feedback!

Brand new study units

Study units are the core building blocks of our course. Redesigned from the ground up, our goal is to give you something simple to navigate and easy to use.

If you’re unfamiliar with our study units, you can think of them like chapters in a book. Our accounting experts organize 100% coverage of exam content into study units to make it easy to learn related topics or concepts that build on one another.

Our courses are adaptive, which means they automatically adjust to what you’re doing and how well you’re doing it. The best place to see that in action is in your personalized recommendations and highlighted in the brand new proficiency gauge!

Updated recommendations, new proficiency gauge

When you complete an exercise, your recommendation and the gauge will update.

Know what to tackle next in order to make progress, and refer to your new proficiency gauge to know where you stand.

Recommendations are tailored specifically by your performance to show you the most effective way forward, but you have the flexibility to choose your own path as well.

3 simple steps

Gleim breaks your studies down into three simple steps to give you a clear sense of what you know, where to focus, and how you are progressing. The steps are:

1. Set a baseline
2. Learn the topics
3. Measure your proficiency

In order to complete a study unit, you’ll need to complete enough exercises (which are any exercises in the “Measure your proficiency” section) to expose you to all of the testable topics in that study unit. You’ll also have to do well enough on each of those topics to move the needle in your proficiency gauge into the green “proficient” section.

If you’re struggling on certain questions, your recommendations will direct you to the content you should review to learn the testable topics.

A dedicated home for tools

We moved all of the tools you can use to supplement your studies to their own section so they’re easy to find and near at hand. The course will not direct you use any of these items specifically because they aren’t required for you to progress, but you can and should use them if you find them helpful!

Overhauled navigation

In addition to rebuilding study units, we’re improving navigation between different parts of the course so you can easily find what you’re looking for and get there quickly by utilizing the helpful side menu!

The course has always guided you toward your improvement areas to save you time studying. We’re making navigation simpler and faster for the same reason: Your time is valuable.

You can now access your study planner at all times, and there’s a new section for course tutorials and help videos.

Guided tours and tooltips

The first time you log in to your updated course, you’ll be asked if you want to take a tour of what’s changed. We definitely recommend taking a look! You’ll also now receive in-course notifications when there are new updates.

Many elements of the course also now have tooltips that help you quickly understand their benefits. They’re accessible at any time for your convenience.

The best gets better

We hope you’re excited for the release on January 3 and can’t wait for you to benefit from these enhancements! If you’re already studying with us, please let us know what you think. Your feedback will help shape future updates.

If you’re ready to get certified, choose Gleim and start studying with our review courses for the CPA, CMA, CIA, or EA exams.
