Gleim CPA Exam day tips and strategies

CPA Exam day tips

Exam day can make even the most prepared CPA Exam candidates nervous. Take a deep breath and have confidence in yourself. You’ve studied for this day and you’re ready. To help reduce exam-day jitters, we have some final tips for you to feel your best on exam day!

Take a test drive with Prometric to get familiar with your Prometric experience

Prometric offers CPA candidates the ability to schedule a test drive – a 30-minute process that will take you through all of the exam day steps. This can relieve a lot of stress and help you focus on the important stuff.

While you can take a test drive with Prometric at anytime, doing so at a similar time as your exam will allow you to see how traffic will affect your travel time.

Get organized the night before.

Make sure you have accurate driving directions, your notice to schedule (NTS), your personal identification, and anything else you may need, like snacks or drinks. Having these right next to your coat or keys makes you less likely to forget them.

You will be given a small locker to hold your personal items, but you should reserve this space for essential things like your wallet, keys, and documents. Anything non-essential should be left at home or in the car.

Check that you are bringing the correct NTS if you have registered for multiple exams! If you bring the wrong NTS, you will be marked as “no-show” and will be forced to reapply and reschedule your exam. So take the extra minute to confirm that the NTS you are bringing is valid!

Use your 15-minute break.

Four hours is a long time to try to remain focused. At the end of your third testlet, take the full 15-minute break. Get something to drink, eat a quick snack, use the restroom, or just meditate.

You cannot use any electronic devices or phones during this break, but even just walking around the lobby can help you refocus. Be mindful of your break time as you will need to allow enough time to go back through security to reenter the testing center. Remember to keep calm and breathe. Worrying about one question, especially after you have submitted it, won’t help you pass. Focus on what is in front of you and do your best!
